Mar 29: "Satellite Center" telemarketer fraud

The "Satellite Center" telemarketer sounded like a scam.

He said the phone number was 755. Then he took a few minutes saying the phone number was 755 before coming up with more fake numbers to make it a 10-digit number. Since 755 is not a real area code, the number was obviously fake.

He wouldn't give an address either.

Mar 29: Recording of "Teri Jones" with fraud for the "Promotion Notification Center" aka "Travel Pros"

This recording called Oct 10, 17, 31, Nov 9 and Nov 29 in 2006 and Jan 4, 11, Feb 12, 20, Mar 9, 14, 23 and Mar 29.

"Hi. This is Teri Jones from the Promotion Notification Center. Congratulations. You have been preselected to receive a complimentary promotional trip to Honolulu Hawaii. Your Hawaiian vacation includes round-trip airfare, as well as hotel accomodations. To claim your vacation, please press the number one key now. Or press three to be removed from the marketing list."

When this recording called Feb 12, I pressed one and had to deal with a hostile telemarketer for "Travel Pros" that said she removed my phone number from their database. Obviously, she's a liar and "Travel Pros" or the "Promotional Notification Center" is a fraud and a scam.

When this recording called Mar 23, I pressed one during the first sentence. The telemarketer said they were "Travel Pros". He refused to give a phone number or an address. He said they had no external phone numbers. He said company policy didn't allow him to give their address. He didn't give me any reason when I asked how I could be sure that "Travel Pros" or "Promotion Notification Center" was not a scam. When I tried to ask why the recording identified them as "Promotion Notification Center" instead of "Travel Pros", he switched me to a phone number removal recording and got to enter a phone number. The recording said something about distributing the phone number to a bunch of places, so I got leery and entered a fake number. I don't know why they have this enter your phone number bullshit, since they should already know the number they just called.

Mar 28: Recording of fraud from "your financial department"

This nameless recording from "your financial department" called Feb 7, 27, Mar 14 and Mar 28.

"Hello. This is a courtesy call from your financial department. After reviewing your recent payment history, we do have a lender that can approve you for the one percent interest rate on the thirty year loan. Please press one now to speak with your financial department. Or press three now to be removed."

Obviously "your financial department" is an attempt to scam people into thinking they're already dealing with them. "The one percent ... on the thirty ..." is just more fraud.

Mar 27: Recording of Cathy with LDCC

This recording has called Sep 15 in 2005, May 17, and Jun 22 in 2006 and Feb 22, Mar 16 and Mar 27.

"Hi. This is Cathy with LDCC at 877-348-2347. Uh. I've been trying to reach you, but I guess I'll just go ahead and leave you a message. I wanted to let you know that because you make your mortgage payments on time, you've been preapproved for our one time mortgage rate reduction program. And with this program, you can reduce your mortgage interest rate, and possibly pull cash out to pay off your car, or high-interest credit card. Uh, but tell you what, I will be in until 8pm tonight, so give me a call when you get in at 877-348-2347, and reference your customer code, which is, let me see, 000000, and I can let you know what rate we can drop your mortgage to, and how much cash we can put in your pocket. Thanks. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Buh-bye."

What a fraud. "One-time"? Until 8pm "tonight"? This is the same message that called a year and a half ago.

Mar 26: Sprint Wireless telemarketer

Sprint Wireless telemarketers have called Nov 15 in 2006 and Mar 26.

There was the typical telemarketer background noise that cut in and out due to the typical telemarketer noise suppressors. He didn't talk very distinctly, so I don't know exactly what he said. It sounded like he was shouting into the phone, causing a bunch of distortion and noise in addition to the background noise.

Mar 22: Recording of anonymous fraud: "This is a courtesy call for area homeowners only"

This anonymous recording has called Mar 22. A similar recording called Jan 29. The recording of "John" has called on Feb 7, 21, 24, Mar 3, Mar 10, Apr 11, Jun 7, and Sep 26 in 2006. An almost identical recording of "John" called Nov 16, 23, Dec 13, 15, Jan 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 14, 17, and 19 in 2005. An almost identical recording of Shawn called Nov 10 in 2005, and Mar 8, Apr 5, and Jun 15 in 2006. A similar anonymous recording called Jan 11 in 2006. A very similar recording of Dan called Apr 17 and 26 in 2006.

"This is a courtesy call for area homeowners only. We're calling to announce that Fanny Mae recently expanded their underwriting. To allow more homeowners to qualify for low interest rate loans. With interest rates as low as they are, regardless of your credit, this may be for you. If you are a homeowner. For more information on how to get this free report, please press one. Again, press two to be put on our do not call list. Or press one for more information."

This sounds like a scam. The previous recording gave 800-646-9558.

If they have that many customers, and that much history, why are they hiding their name? Because this recording is actually a scam? Why wouldn't they identify themselves? They don't want to be associated with telemarketing? If not, then don't telemarket.

Mar 21: Chronicle telemarketer

Chronicle telemarketers have called a handful of times. I'll start keeping track now, starting with Mar 21.

I said I wasn't interested around a dozen times before she said goodbye.

This recording has called Dec 14 in 2005, Apr 3, May 3, 23, Jun 6, Jul 25, and Oct 3 in 2006 and Jan 16 and Mar 20.

Why aren't they fucking out of business due to the subprime crash? Maybe they are out of business, but are still spewing out the calls.

Mar 20: Recording of fraud by "Dorothy" with the "mortgage branch"

This recording has called at work on Dec 8 and Dec 18 in 2006 and at work on Jan 18 and at work on Feb 3, and Mar 6 and Mar 20. The recording of "Sandy" from "the mortgage branch" called Jan 10 at work.

"Hey guys, this is Dorothy with the mortgage branch. Um. Just wanted to give you a call and let you know that your home and your area has been approved for our new one percent refinance program. Now, this is something that's good for only the next seven days. So if you'd like some additional information on this program, go ahead and press one on your phone right now. This one percent refinance program is something that you could use to pay off some bills, take cash out of your property, or just take a vacation. Once again, if you'd like additional information about this program, simply press one on your telephone right now. Thank you. And have a great day."

Why don't they fucking retire these recordings if they say things like "good for only the next seven days"? Oh, right. They're fraudulent scams.

Don't miss out on this all-inclusive vacation. Press the number one key now. If you would like decline our offer, please press three."

I doubt that a friend or a family member entered my name at a vacation kiosk at one of those stores. I think that recording is a lie. They're trying to scam people into thinking they "won" something.

Mar 15: Recording of "John of Thin" with "consumer services" fraud

This recording of "John of This" with consumer services has called Mar 15. Fraudulent recordings of Rachel at "cardholder services" called Sep 15, Oct 4, Nov 16, Dec 19 in 2005, Jan 3, Feb 1, Feb 7, twice on Mar 2, Apr 7, Apr 10, May 1, May 23, May 25, Jun 29, Jul 11, Aug 18, Aug 21, Sep 22, Oct 23, Dec 6 in 2006 and at work on Dec 2, Dec 30 in 2005, Mar 7, and Jun 20 in 2006 and Jan 3, Feb 19 and Mar 1. Mar 14: Recording of fraud from "Lisa" in the "financial department"

This recording of "Lisa in the financial department" has called Mar 14.

"Hello. This is Lisa in the financial department. Due to your recent payment history, our records indicate you could qualify for a one percent interest rate on your current mortgage. Press the number one key now to speak with your mortgage representative. Or press three to be removed."

Mar 14: Recording of fraud from "your financial department"

This nameless recording from "your financial department" called Feb 7, 27 and Mar 14.

In recent news, it seems that subprime lenders are having trouble. I hope a lot of them go belly-up. I've gotten a number of calls from Countrywide telemarketers, so I hope Countrywide goes out of business. At least, there could be fewer mortgage telemarketing calls, though time will tell. If it switches to some other telemarketing scams calling, it won't be any improvement. However, since most peoples' biggest investments are their homes, mortgage scams are the obvious way to extract lots of money from suckers, so who knows what could replace them? I've gotten a few stock pumping scam telemarketing calls, though nothing specifically targetting retirement funds. There are the incessant credit scams calling. There seems to be a rise in health care scams calling.

Whatever. This bullshit is not really worth any more thought from me.

Mar 14: Recording of "Teri Jones" with fraud for the "Promotion Notification Center" aka "Travel Pros"

This recording called Oct 10, 17, 31, Nov 9 and Nov 29 in 2006 and Jan 4, 11, Feb 12, 20, Mar 9 and Mar 14.

This time, I pressed one during the first sentence and the system hung up on me.

Mar 9: Recording of "This is a public service message from the medical benefits association"

This recording has called Feb 7, 15, 22 and Mar 9.

"This is a public service message from the medical benefits association. We have found a health care program for a low as three dollars a day. Press one now to hear about this complete medical benefits savings program, which includes hospitalization benefits, doctor benefits, and hearing benefits. And your family can get this complete medical benefits savings program. So go ahead, press one. Or if you'd like to be removed from our database, press two."

There were minor changes in wording from the previous calls. I wonder why. Maybe so that they can call those who have been "removed" from their database in response to the previous recording, claiming that it's a different message.

Mar 9: Recording of "Teri Jones" with fraud for the "Promotion Notification Center" aka "Travel Pros"

This recording called Oct 10, 17, 31, Nov 9 and Nov 29 in 2006 and Jan 4, 11, Feb 12, 20 and Mar 9.

"So press one now. If you have received this call in error, please press two to be placed on the do not call list. Thank you."

Fuck you and your stupid so-called "errors".

Mar 8: Recording of "this is a courtesy mortgage payment reminder call"

This recording has called Feb 23 and Mar 8.

"Hello. This is a courtesy mortgage payment reminder call. Our records indicate you may have an adjustable rate mortgage that IS scheduled to inCREASE. To speak with a live ascent(?) mortgage specialist. This call may be monitored or recorded for quality control purposes. Press two to remove this number from the call reminder service. Or press one to speak with a lime(?) a sense(?) mortgage specialist. Thank you."

This has to be a scam. Why do they call themselves a "reminder service"? That is such bullshit.

Mar 8: Recording of fraud mixing "cardholder services" and "we've been trying to reach you" fraud

This recording has called Mar 8.

The fraudulent recording of Heather at "account services" called May 1 and Jul 28 in 2006 and Jan 3. Fraudulent recordings of Michelle with cardholder services have called Sep 5, 15 and Nov 29 in 2006. The fraudulent sounding recording of Michael called Nov 18 in 2005.

"Please press one on your phone now to speak to a live operator and..." Recording cuts off. "We've been trying to reach you. The entry form you filled out online has been chosen. You win. Congratulations. You've won five days on the beach in Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. And your trip is all-inclusive. This four thousand dollar vacation is yours. You've won. We ask only that you prepay the tax and gratuities, which is only two hundred and ninety-nine dollars apiece. Press one to claim your prize."

The $299 makes it obviously a scam. Furthermore, I never filled out any online entry form. That the fragment of what I think is the "Rachel at cardholder services" recordings precedes it means that those credit card recordings are scams too.

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Mar 7: Recording of fraud from "If you own a home, we'd like to..."

We look forward to speaking with you."

Sounds like yet another scam. Or maybe yet another recording of many from a scam.

Mar 7: Recording of "Sarah" at 800-993-5162

What is this "eligibility expires shortly" bullshit while calling dozens of times over a year and a half? Why won't people stop falling for this scam so that they'll shut down and finally stop calling me?
