Feb 11: Recording of "please listen carefully" extended vehicle warranty fraud: "Auto Warranty Specialists"

Male voice: "Please listen carefully. This is an important notice regarding your automobile. We recently mailed you a postcard to activate your extended warranty coverage. This courtesy call is your final notice that your vehicle will be removed from our system. This means the opportunity to activate your extended warranty at deeply discounted rates will be lost. To speak with an agent regarding your options before the deadline, please press one now. If you wish to permanently remove your vehicle from eligibility for future coverage, press three now."

I pressed one, and someone saying his name is Sean answered, saying they were "Auto Warranty Specialists". I asked who they were and he repeated the information. I asked for an address for "Auto Warranty Specialists", and he hung up on me. Evidently, they are a scam.

I just got the same call, and my call is 17 years old. I wanted to know who they were, so I pressed "1". When they answered, they asked me the year, make, and model of my car. I asked them to tell me the year make and model of my car. They hung up. Scammers.

My name is Jim Vandiver. Alot of people are confusing Dealer Services or National Auto Warranty Services in Wentzville, MO with other companies. They do NOT dial outbound to their customers. The best way to figure out who is calling you is to do something like this:

1. Answer the call and play along, act interested.

2. The first person you talk to is likely just screening calls, so agree to speak with a specialist or sales person

3. Go through the sales pitch and tell them you need to call them back with your credit card

4. Get the callback number and post it here, I'll check back over the next few days. I can check as to who the phone number belongs to and verify it with the utility company.

Hello Folks Mike Roberts is back. Last I heard the very people you complained about over and over again until it became overly redundant. They have disconnected their dialer. It seems they decided to leave calls to the less reputable companies that do out bound calls. They however only accept inbound only calls. So I fail to see why there is still complaints coming from you all. Wake up and smell the coffee people. It isnt them!!!!! Yeah now all you wonderful people forget all you thought you have learned. Go re educate your selves, on who is doing all the calling. Than form a new forum that actually makes sence. Try to base it on knowledge not here say of the first iddiot that jumps conclusions . If an iddiot jumps over a bridge why would all you people jump on the band waggon and follow the village iddiots.

I've gotten the Auto Warranty call three times now. I acted interested, then I hung up while they were transferring me. They called back, and their real number registered on my caller ID. I called that number and was able to get connected back to the guy I had been talking to.
The real number is 925-771-2501

I get this telemarketer scam call two or three times a week and just got it about 5 minutes ago...from (703) 257-0175. I signaled to talk to a rep, and when he schpieled me, I calmly asked, "Which automobile company's warranty does this concern? See, I have two cars..." The young man paused, obviously flustered (a terrible liar, I doubt he'll last long at this outfit) and said "This company is 'Warranty Specialists'.

I persisted. "You're from a subsidiary, I take it?" I asked him.

He said, "Um...yes."

I told him to please read to me the information he had on hand about my warranty and tell me which car it was referencing. He answered, "This would be in reference to the one you bought after 2005". The old shot-in-the-dark technique.

After this point I told him that he was a worse liar than me, and that it's awfully plain to me there was no such information, and would have been EVEN IF I was NOT someone who had NEVER BOUGHT AN AUTOMOBILE in her life, nor even driven one...
